STANDARD INDUSTRIAL SHEARS

Standard shear

Standard Industrial shear

Download Shear BrochureDownload shear brochure

Single cylinder, hydra-mechanical shears provide the most precision shearing ability available due to the guillotine drive system. These extremely heavy duty, 100% U.S. made shears with a 5 year parts warranty, range form 1/4" to1 1/4" capacities and with lengths up to 22'. We offer popular options so you can configure your shear to meet your needs.

The Standard shear gives you a massive unitized frame in a single fabrication. This frame consists of the closed end housings, upper cross members, the lower beam, and a table that together create the strongest design available on the market. The 80,000 P.S.I. steel capacity is supplied by a single cylinder hydra-mechanical drive system. This capacity is crucial to meet today’s requirements. The Standard hydraulic system is one of the most powerful on the market with a large capacity pump and valving to give the operators the most shearing tons available. This heavy duty system allows you to shear a tremendous range of steel thicknesses in a single blade gap setting. A set of large, heavy duty, single acting hold-down cylinders supply all the support required to keep the workpiece in place for the most precise cut. These cylinders automatically clamp down on the workpiece prior to the movement of the blade. Narrow material is easily sheared by two cylinders placed side by side on the right side of the shear.

Standard Industrial went to great lengths to engineer machines to be the most trouble free available on the market today. Although powerful, the hydraulic and electric systems are incredibly simple to keep downtime to a minimum. All components are made from U.S. suppliers like Square D and Vickers, and we designed them from the vendors’ stock, not specially made units just for us. Your machine will come with a manual that lists the components original manufacturer’s name and part number. This gives you the choice to buy replacement parts that are always available from Standard or from your local hometown vendor’s shelf.

The hydraulic system is designed for quiet, shockless operation to eliminate the need for special foundation requirements. The shear also comes with system overload protection to stop damage if an operator attempts to cut more than the machine’s capacity. Another standard feature is a 36” travel, PLC controlled "Go-To" backgauge with multi-level programming. This backgauge is undoubtedly the most heavy duty unit available on the market. It is also available with a 48" travel and/or with a power swingaway which brings the entire backgauge up and out of the way to shear long pieces. With a long list of other impressive options and standard features, the Standard Industrial shear will make you proud when you say that you “bought American".

Guillotine Drive vs Swing beam/Rocker Arm Drive

Ask a metal fabricator and they will tell you there is no substitute for an American made, true guillotine drive shear. Lower quality shears, typically foreign made swing beam/rocker arm style competitors attempt to compare themselves to a guillotine but all fail to offer the quality of a guillotine design. No other shear design can compare when it comes to the power and precision delivered by the straight line cutting action of a Standard shear.

4 Crucial Factors to Provide the Most Precise Cut

  • Strength of the drive system
  • Strength of the frame
  • Consistent angle of the upper blade to the work piece throughout the cut
  • A heavy duty, high tonnage hold down system to hold work piece from slipping

Guillotine drive

Guillotine Design features:

The most important factor in providing a precision cut is the manner in which the upper blade cuts through material from the beginning to the end of the cut. A Standard guillotine drive system insures the upper blade comes down in a straight line because the linkage is driven from directly above the work piece. Throughout the cut, the relationship of the upper blade to the material never changes.

Key advantage points of a Guillotine Design:

  • Relationship of top blade to material being sheared never changes
  • Straight cutting action
  • Wide range of material with single blade setting
  • Heavy duty gibbs keep ram straight
  • Angle of cut is consistent throughout stroke
  • Heavy design backed by a 5 year parts warranty

Swing Beam/Rocker Arm

In direction opposition to this, the swing beam/rocker arm system pivots from the side of the end frames and brings the ram down in an arc or “swing”. This causes the relationship of the top blade to the work piece to change throughout the entire cut. Because the blade comes down in an arc, the cut is distorted throughout the cut. This is why sellers of swing beam designed shears showcase the blade gap adjustment feature as being simple to use. The operator must adjust the blade gap for every material thickness, otherwise burrs or jamming will occur.

Swing beam Rocker Arm Drive System

Key disadvantages with Swing Beam Shears:

  • Ram has an Arc or swing thought stroke
  • Blade gap must be changed with every material thickness change
  • Cannot have a variable blade rake adjustment
  • Angle of blade change causes distortion from beginning to end of cut
  • Since they are lighter, usually 1-2 year warranty

Made in the USA and backed by a 5 Year Parts Warranty.
